Note: Refers to semi-permanent screens sliding in tracks that are characteristic features of traditional Japanese architecture. They can be open and closed or removed altogether to alter the dimensions or character of a room. Location determined the materials from which they were made: wood was typically used for screens near the exterior of a building, while screens made of wooden lattices covered with translucent paper, painted or upainted, were more often used for interior rooms.

Chinese (traditional) ..... 指半永久性、可在軌道上滑動的屏風,為傳統日式建築的特色。可藉由開、關或全部拆卸來改變房間大小或格局風格。它們的製作材料取決於其擺放的位置:靠近建築物外部的紙拉門通常為木製,而內部房間的紙拉門,則通常在格子框上覆蓋可能繪有圖案的半透明紙所製成。 
Dutch ..... Verwijst naar semipermanente, in schuifprofielen geplaatste schermen die een karakteristiek element in traditionele Japanse bouwkunst vormen. Ze kunnen worden geopend en gesloten of helemaal worden verwijderd om aldus de afmetingen of het karakter van een kamer te veranderen. De locatie van de schermen bepaalde het materiaalgebruik: hout werd doorgaans gebruikt voor schermen nabij de buitenkant van een gebouw, terwijl schermen van doorschijnend, beschilderd of onbeschilderd papier op een houten raamwerk meestal werden gebruikt voor binnenkamers.
