Note: A Protestant denomination emphasizing a close personal relationship with God, the importance of the Holy Spirit, and a strong belief in the historical doctrines of Christianity. A simple and egalitarian form of worship in which ministers and laymen cooperate is advocated, as is work done on behalf of impoverished people. Methodism was started as an evangelical movement within the Church of England by John Wesley in 1739 and it became a separate denomination in 1795. The movement flourished as Wesley and other evangelical leaders traveled in England and to the American colonies. The main Methodist doctrine is laid out in Wesley's sermons, his notes on the New Testament, and his Articles of Religion.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 一支新教派別，強調個人與神的密切關係、聖靈的重要性、及對基督教歷史教義的強烈信仰。提倡由牧師與一般信徒合力完成簡單且平等的敬拜模式，一如為窮人及不幸人士所進行的敬拜模式一般。衛理公會始自約翰衛斯理(John Wesley)於西元1739年從英國國教發起的福音運動，於西元1795年成為獨立的派別。衛斯理及其他福音領袖至英國各處與美國殖民地旅行傳道，使此福音運動興盛起來。衛理公會主要的教義是根據衛斯理的佈道、他對《新約》的筆記，以及他所撰寫的《信綱(Articles of Religion)》。 |
| Dutch ..... Een protestantse denominatie die de nadruk legt op een hechte persoonlijke relatie met God, het belang van de Heilige Geest en een vast geloof in de historische doctrines van het christendom. Het bepleit een eenvoudige vorm van godsdienstoefening op basis van gelijkheid waarbij geestelijken en leken samenwerken, evenals werkzaamheden ten behoeve van armen en minder bedeelden. Het methodisme kwam voort uit de Anglicaanse Kerk en werd in 1739 opgericht door John Wesley. In 1795 werd het een zelfstandige denominatie. De beweging kwam tot bloei toen Wesley en andere evangelische leiders door Engeland en de Amerikaanse koloniën trokken. De belangrijkste doctrine van het methodisme is te vinden in de preken van Wesley, zijn aantekeningen over het Nieuwe Testament en zijn religieuze statuten. |

El metodismo comenzó como un movimiento evangélico dentro de la Iglesia de Inglaterra por John Wesley en 1739 y se convirtió en una denominación separada en 1795. El movimiento floreció con Wesley y gracias a otros líderes que recorrieron Inglaterra y se dirijieron a las colonias americanas. La doctrina Metodista esta basada en el sermón de Wisley, su notas del Nuevo Testamento y sus artículos sobre religión. |
