Note: Refers to the Protestant body derived from the Reformation of Martin Luther (1483-1546). Lutheran doctrine recognizes three sacraments (baptism, Eucharist, and penance) and centers around the concepts of justification by faith alone and the preisthood of all believers. Like most other Protestant denominations, Lutheranism emphasizes the importance of scripture rather than church authority. The doctrine is based on the Augsburg Confession, the Apology, Luther's two Catechisms, and the Formula of Concord. Lutheran churches first flourished in Scandinavia and Germany, later spreading to other parts of Europe. Lutheranism spread to the United States after the 1740s through immigration and spread to Africa and Asia through Lutheran missionary work in the 19th century. Lutheranism is one of the three main branches of Protestantism (the other two being Anglican and Calvinist), and it is the oldest and largest.

| Dutch ..... Verwijst naar de protestantse beweging die ontstond bij de reformatie van Martin Luther (1483-1546). De lutherse doctrine erkent drie sacramenten: baptisme, eucharistie en boetedoening. Centraal staan rechtvaardiging door middel van het geloof, en het priesterschap van alle gelovigen. Zoals bij de meeste andere protestantse stromingen wordt bij het lutheranisme meer belang gehecht aan de heilige geschriften dan aan kerkelijke autoriteiten. De doctrine is gebaseerd op de Augsburgse confessie, de apologie, de beide catechismussen van Luther en de 'formula concordiae'. De lutherse kerken bloeiden het eerst op in Scandinavië en Duitsland en breidden zich later uit naar andere delen van Europa. Het lutheranisme breidde zich na de jaren veertig van de 17de eeuw uit naar de Verenigde Staten door immigratie en in de 19de eeuw naar Afrika en Azië, door het werk van lutherse missionarissen. Het lutheranisme is een van de drie belangrijkste stromingen van het protestantisme (naast het anglicanisme en calvinisme) en tevens de oudste en grootste stroming. |

À l’instar de la plupart des autres dénominations protestantes, le luthéranisme met l’accent sur l’importance des Écritures plutôt que sur l’autorité de l’Église. La doctrine repose sur la Confession d’Augsbourg, l’Apologie, les deux catéchismes de Luther et la Formule de concorde. Les Églises luthériennes se sont développées en Scandinavie et en Allemagne, avant de s’étendre à d’autres régions d’Europe. Après les années 1740, le luthéranisme s’est répandu aux États-Unis par le biais de l’immigration, puis en Afrique et en Asie dans le cadre du travail des missionnaires luthériens au 19e siècle. Como muchas otras sectas protestantes, el luteranismo enfatiza la importancia de las Escrituras más que la autoridad de la Iglesia. La doctrina se basa en la Confesión de Augsburgo, la Apología, los dos catecismos y la Fórmula de concordia. La iglesia Luterana floreció primero en Escandinavia y luego en Alemania ,más tarde se extendió a otras partes de Europa.
