Note: Refers to spheres that bear a map of the Earth on their surface. They were first devised by the ancient Greeks, who had calculated that the Earth is a sphere. Modern terrestrial globes are typically mounted on an axle that permits rotation and is tilted 23.5 degrees from the vertical in order to simulate the inclination of the Earth relative to the plane in which it orbits the Sun.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Verwijst naar bollen met op het oppervlak een kaart van de aarde. De eerste wereldbollen werden ontworpen door de oude Grieken, die hadden berekend dat de aarde een bolvorm moest hebben. Moderne wereldbollen zijn meestal gemonteerd op een as die ronddraaien mogelijk maakt, in een hoek van 23,5 graden ten opzichte van de verticale as, om zo de inclinatie te simuleren van de aarde ten opzichte van het vlak waarin de aarde rond de zon draait. 
Spanish ..... Se refiere a esferas que tienen un mapa de la Tierra en su superficie. Fueron primero inventadas por los antiguos griegos quienes habían calculado que la Tierra era una esfera. Los globos terrestres modernos están por lo común montados en un eje que permite la rotación y que está inclinado 23.5 grados de la vertical para simular la inclinación de la Tierra en relación al plano en que orbita alrededor del Sol.
