Note: Wood in the form of broad, thin, flat or sometimes curved pieces that serve as a support for media in visual works; examples are paintings on wood. In architecture and other constructive arts, use "panels (surface components" to refer to a panel, whether of wood or another material, that is typically a compartment of a surface either sunken below or raised above the general level, and set in a molding or other border, as in a frame, sometimes of different color or material.

Dutch ..... In de kunstwereld verwijst de term naar brede, dunne, vlakke of soms gebogen stukken hout, zoals bij schilderijen op paneel. Gebruik 'panelen (oppervlaktecomponenten)' in de architectuur en andere constructieve kunsten om te verwijzen naar een paneel, van hout of een ander materiaal, dat meestal een segment vormt van een oppervlak dat verzonken is onder of uitsteekt boven het algehele niveau, en dat onderdeel vormt van een lijst of een andere begrenzing, zoals bij een schilderijlijst, soms met een afwijkende kleur of vervaardigd uit een ander materiaal.
