Originally made of wicker in the 19th century, based on wicker armchair furniture with covered high rising hoods that had been created by basketmakers for centuries.

| Dutch ..... Stoelen voor op het strand, met een kap voor bescherming tegen zon en wind. Ze kunnen van vlechtwerk, hout en doek, of andere materialen gemaakt zijn. In de 19de eeuw werden ze van vlechtwerk gemaakt, naar het model van gevlochten stoelen met armleuningen met hoge kappen die al eeuwenlang door mandenmakers werden gemaakt.
