Note: Legendary creatures, from the Greek meaning "every wild beast," that often take the form of a large cat with a multi-colored coat, but may also be in the form of another animal or a composite creature. The ancient Greeks believed the panther was one of the favored mounts of the god Dionysus. In Medieval legend, the panther would sleep in a cave after feasting upon prey, and after three days emitted a sweet odor from its mouth, to draw additional prey into the cave.

| Dutch ..... Legendarische wezens wier naam voortkomt uit het Grieks voor 'ieder wild beest'. Ze zouden vaak de vorm van een grote kat met een veelkleurige vacht aannemen, maar daarnaast ook als andere dieren of als een mengsel van verschillende wezens kunnen verschijnen. De oude Grieken geloofden dat de panter een van de favoriete rijdieren was van de god Dionysos. Volgens een middeleeuwse legende sliep de panter, nadat hij een prooi verslonden had, drie dagen lang in een grot. Vervolgens bracht hij een zoete geur uit zijn bek voort, waardoor nieuwe slachtoffers naar de grot gelokt werden. |
