Note: Sport in which a bull is first baited and, in most cases, finally slain by a swordsman. Historic fighting venues are in the Iberian Peninsula, southern France, and Hispanic America. Bullfighting traces its roots to prehistoric bull worship and sacrifice in several cultures, including Mycenaean Greece and in prehistoric cave paintings in Spain. The sport in Europe probably developed from Roman soldiers practicing rituals of the cult of Mithras.

Dutch ..... Sport waarin een stier wordt uitgedaagd en in de meeste gevallen uiteindelijk door een zwaardvechter wordt gedood. Historische centra van het stierenvechten bevinden zich op het Iberisch Schiereiland, in Zuid-Frankrijk en in Latijns-Amerika. De traditie stamt af van de prehistorische verering en opoffering van stieren in veel culturen, zoals in Myceens Griekenland of in de prehistorie in Spanje, zoals blijkt uit grottekeningen. In Europa werd de sport waarschijnlijk ontwikkeld uit de rituelen van de Mithrascultus die door Romeinse soldaten werden uitgevoerd.
