Note: Refers to Inca designs comprising geometric forms enclosed in squares, believed to be used primarily on textiles. It is believed that the designs were a system of pictographs, perhaps an ancient ideographic form of writing (perhaps representing the names of cities or kings) or a mnemonic system. Tocapu was apparently used only on the garments of chiefs and other individuals of high rank. See also "khipu," which was a mnemonic system made of knotted strings.

Additional Notes:
Dutch ..... Verwijst naar Inca-ontwerpen die bestaan uit geometrische vormen binnen vierkanten, welke hoofdzakelijk op textiel zouden zijn toegepast. Men vermoedt dat deze ontwerpen gebaseerd zijn op een systeem van pictogrammen, wellicht een oud ideografisch schrift (mogelijk stelden ze de namen van steden of koningen voor) of een mnemonisch systeem. Het lijkt erop dat tocapu-symbolen uitsluitend werden aangebracht op de kleding van opperhoofden en andere hooggeplaatste personen. Zie ook 'khipu's', een mnemonisch systeem op basis van knopen in touwen. 
Spanish ..... Se refiere a diseños incas que comprenden formas geométricas encerradas en cuadrados, se piensa que se usaba principalmente en textiles. Se cree que los diseños eran un sistema de pictografías, quizás una antigua forma ideográfica de escritura (quizás representa los nombres de ciudades o reyes) o un sistema mnemónico. Los tocapu se usaba aparentemente sólo en la vestimenta de jefes y otros individuos de alto rango. Vea también "kipu," el cual era un sistema mnemónico hecho de cuerdas anudadas.
