Note: The hard-finish lacquering technique which utilizes many coats of varnish composed of shellac dissolved in spirit, then polished and decorated, usually Oriental in style and subject matter. Originally developed as a substitute for genuine Oriental lacquer which was popular during the second half of the 17th century.

| Chinese (traditional) ..... 硬質拋光的上漆技術，利用溶解於醇中的蟲膠漆所配成的多層亮光漆，用以呈現光澤及裝飾，通常是東方的風格與題材。最初是用來替代盛行於西元十七世紀後半期的東方漆器真品。 |
| Dutch ..... De techniek van de harde-afwerkingslak waarbij vele lagen vernis worden aangebracht. Die lagen vernis bestaan uit schellak die in alcohol wordt opgelost, vervolgens wordt gepolijst en daarna wordt versierd. De afbeeldingen zijn meestal oosters qua stijl en thematiek. Oorspronkelijk werd het japanlakken ontwikkeld om de echte oosterse lak, die in de tweede helft van de 17e eeuw erg populair was, te vervangen. |
| Spanish ..... La técnica del lacado y de acabado duro que utiliza muchas capas de barniz compuesto por goma laca disuelta en alcohol, luego pulido y decorado, habitualmente en estilo y tema oriental. Originalmente desarrollado como un substituto para el lacado oriental original. |
