K-12 programs

Teachers are welcome to bring their K–12 classes to the Getty Center. For details and an online request form, see Planning a School Visit.

Three options are offered for K–12 teachers who wish to bring classes to the Getty Center:

  • Self-Guided Visits—teachers independently lead their students through the galleries. Teachers can reserve GettyGuide audio players for their students to use free of charge during Self-Guided Visits.
  • Self-Guided Visit plus Student Architecture & Garden Tours—explore the intriguing exterior of the Getty Center with a docent, and then lead students independently through the galleries.
  • Guided Visits—highly participatory lessons taught by professional Museum educators. Students study a limited number of objects and work in small groups to discuss, write, and role-play. Guided Visits can be booked for groups of up to 120 students and last one hour for grades K–2, one hour and 15 minutes for grades 3–12.

The Getty Museum offers ongoing professional development opportunities for K–12 teachers at the Getty Center. See Professional Development Opportunities in the Education section of this Web site for details.

K–12 Programs
Teachers are welcome to bring their K–12 classes to the Getty Villa. All school groups must make reservations using the Getty Villa School Visit Request Form. See Planning a School Visit for more information.

Two options are offered for K–12 teachers who wish to bring classes to the Villa: Self-Guided Visits and Guided Visits facilitated by a gallery teacher. All teachers who plan to bring students to the Villa for the first time are required to attend a Teacher Orientation Workshop in advance of their visit.

Themed galleries and interactive spaces, such as the TimeScape Room and GettyGuide Room at the Villa, help students and school group leaders develop a better understanding of the arts and cultures of the ancient world. An outdoor picnic area, lockers, and the Explore Store support the school program.

For more information about school programs at the Villa, please contact the Education Department at (310) 440-6550.

Professional Development
The four-day Villa Summer Institute for K-12 teachers helps to prepare educators for more in-depth work with the Museum's antiquities collection. For more information about upcoming Villa Summer Institute programming, see Professional Development Opportunities in the Education section of this Web site.
