This summer, embark on a safari—a cultural one, that is. The Getty Center, the Los Angeles Zoo, the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, and the Skirball Cultural Center invite you to come along on the adventure as we celebrate exhibitions and events related to animals and insects.
Visit each of the participating institutions between May 29 and September 2, 2007, pick up a free Family Passport, and collect a stamp on page 3. Complete your safari by obtaining all four stamps, and you'll receive a special prize.

Enjoy the rare opportunity to see works by the 18th century's greatest animal painter, Jean-Baptiste Oudry. The exhibition Oudry's Painted Menagerie includes life-size paintings of a lion, an antelope, a leopard, several exotic fowl, and a famous touring rhinoceros named Clara.
Recently restored by conservators at the Getty Museum and on display for the first time in 150 years, Clara's portrait captures the spirit and majesty of the gentle giant that dazzled audiences 250 years ago on an extensive European tour.

Opening June 26, 2007, Noah's Ark at the Skirball Cultural Center is an 8,000-square-foot, hands-on, indoor and outdoor attraction offering a multi-sensory, interactive experience for children and families. You can board a gigantic wooden ark filled with fanciful, handcrafted animals for a journey progressing through storms (challenges), arks (shelter and community), and rainbows (hope).
Role-play, build, climb, explore, make sounds, operate gadgets, play games, and more. The new space is complemented by a range of activities, performances, and special events. Stamp your Family Passport at the Skirball Admissions Desk.

Explore three floors of permanent exhibition halls, featuring dioramas, dinosaurs and fossils, Pre-Columbian culture, "walk-through" habitats, and more at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Interact with exotic animals and insects at the Ralph M. Parsons Discovery Center and the Ralph M. Parsons Bug Spot.
Don't miss the Butterfly Pavilion, open through September 3, which features 30 different species of free-flying butterflies in a beautifully landscaped outdoor space (separate fee applies).

Get face-to-fangs with venomous spiders and creepy crawlers from around the world at the new Spider City
exhibit at the Los Angeles Zoo. Weave your way through chilling displays of over 25 species of spiders and meet a quarter-pounder (spider, that is) along with the Goliath Bird-Eating Tarantula boasting a legspan of up to 11 inches. Learn what makes a spider a spider and why these misunderstood creatures are so important to our ecosystems.
