A year in the making, this staging of Phaedra by the Antaeus Company brings a strikingly contemporary vision of the myth of Hippolytos and Phaidra to the stage.

Stephanie Shoyer, a nine-time Drama-Logue award winner, directs this riveting version of the myth by Roman author and master rhetorician Seneca (about 4 B.C–A.D. 65), who lived under Nero's repressive rule. Seneca transforms the myth into a political allegory in which the dramatic conflict between Hippolytos's obsessive control and Phaidra's uncontrollable passions results in chaos and the tragic end of a dynasty.

The production complements the current exhibition Enduring Myth: The Tragedy of Hippolytos and Phaidra and the recently concluded sellout presentation of Euripides' Hippolytos in the Barbara and Lawrence Fleischman Theater.
