Inside Out, Outside In: Landscape, Architecture, and the Getty Villa (lecture)

Date: Thursday, April 20, 2006
Time: 8:00 p.m.
Location: Getty Villa, Auditorium
Admission: Free; a ticket is required.

Wim de Wit, co-curator of the exhibition The Getty Villa Reimagined, explores the role of the natural landscape in Machado and Silvetti's renovation of the Getty Villa.

Before its renovation, the Villa had elaborate gardens but was shut off from the surrounding landscape. De Wit explores features of the redesign that helped to link interior and exterior spaces and redefine the Villa's relationship to its canyon site. These include the visitor entry sequence, the windows and skylights in the Museum, and the new structures such as the outdoor classical theater.
