The Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals is the foremost bibliography of writings on architecture and design. Begun in 1934 at the Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library at Columbia University, it continues to be produced there under the direction and support of the Getty Research Institute. In 2006, an end-user survey was conducted to learn about the perceived effectiveness of Avery Index and the value placed on abstracts and indexing that accompany the bibliographic records of the database.
