Farewell to Clara: Exhibition and Blog Close Today

Oudry's Painted Menagerie closed today, and we bid Clara and the other exotic and elegant beasts a fond farewell. We will not be regularly updating this blog, but all existing posts will continue to be accessible here at www.getty.edu/oudry.

For me, one of the most revealing aspects of this fascinating exhibition were the many "Claras" in porcelain and other precious materials that brought up the last segment of the great animal parade. Witty and endlessly inventive, they called me to notice the decorative aspects of the animals in Oudry's paintings and drawings as well...
