Photographers of Genius at the Getty is dedicated to the vision and accomplishments of 38 of the most important photographers represented in the Getty's collection. From Hippolyte Bayard to Diane Arbus, the influential pioneers presented in this exhibition span more than a century of photography, from the earliest years of the new art form in the late 1830s to the late 1960s. Each photographer featured in the exhibition advanced the art of photography and brought about change in the history of art, thereby influencing subsequent generations of artists and visual perception. Photographers of Genius at the Getty is the museum's spring Premiere Presentation, marking it as one of the most important shows of the year.
