Location: Getty Villa, Auditorium
In the exhibition Aphrodite and the Gods of Love—on view March 28 through July 9, 2012 at the Getty Villa—the display of objects from sites such as Athens, Aphrodisias, Gravisca and Naukratis highlights the variety of ways in which the goddess was worshipped. Archaeological investigations of Aphrodite's sanctuaries, as well as material found in domestic contexts, are critical for furthering our understanding of this complex divinity. Featuring papers that span the Mediterranean, this one-day symposium brings together an international group of scholars in order to shed light on local distinctions and broader commonalities in the conceptualization of this fascinating goddess.

- Francesca Boitani, Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia, Rome
