Keith Davis, senior curator of photography at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, provides an overview of one of the most remarkable and influential careers in American photography. For more than 55 years, Ray K. Metzker has been celebrating, exploring, and reinventing the "straight" photographic image. From the graphic elegance of his early photographs, through the complexity of his famous 1960s Composites, to the luminous grace of his landscapes and the whimsy of his recent cityscapes, Metzker's work represents a uniquely inspiring vision of both the world and the potentials of photography.
Complements the exhibition The Photographs of Ray K. Metzker and the Institute of Design.
