Ordering and Reproducing Images from the J. Paul Getty Museum's Collection—Fees and Timeframe

The J. Paul Getty Museum grants permission to download collection images from our website for your own personal and non-commercial use, or for fair use as defined in the United States copyright laws. The Getty also makes available, without charge, all available digital images to which the Getty holds the rights or that are in the public domain to be used for any purpose. No permission is required. For more information on discovering unrestricted, high-resolution digital images available for download, please review the Getty’s Open Content Program.

Except as expressly permitted above, requests for all other uses must be made in writing, and the Museum will only consider requests to use or reproduce images of objects in its collection for scholarly, educational, or non-commercial purposes. Each request is separately considered, and permission is granted on a case-by-case basis at the sole discretion of the Museum. Fees apply depending on the type and nature of the intended use.

Note: Please contact the Merchandise Development office for requests to create merchandise (see contact information at right).

Fees

See the Collection Image Fees Schedule for full pricing information.

RUSH FEE Double total fees. If new photography is not required, rush orders may be accommodated for requests of 5 images or less. Media will be sent within one week of receipt of payment and the completed permission request form.

Pre-payment

Payment in full is due in advance of all media shipments and must be made in U.S. dollars. Accepted forms of payment include checks drawn from U.S. banks, wire transfers, and credit cards (Visa or MasterCard only). Payment must be received within 6 weeks from invoice for your order to be fulfilled promptly.

Timeframe

Please allow 2–3 weeks for initial processing. Thereafter, once the payment has been received, please allow an additional 2 weeks for the images to be sent to you (or, up to 2 months for images from the Department of Photographs or Drawings collections). Large and complex orders or requests for which new photography must be ordered, are subject to approval and will take longer. Note that requests submitted by mail, email, or fax will take longer to fill.
