The Compleat Leader

The Getty Leadership Institute (GLI) offers learning opportunities designed to strengthen and sustain current and future museum leaders and their institutions. In addition to professional development programs such as the long-standing MLI: The Museum Leadership Institute, GLI also convenes museum professionals, board members, academics, and philanthropists to pose, question and reframe issues of significance affecting the nonprofit field.

Compleat Leader
The Compleat Leader, presents a compendium of these issues, views and opinions of interest to the busy museum leader, and invites comments.

Current topics include: leadership and governance; strategy and planning; organizational behavior; evaluating museum performance; marketing and communications; finance and accounting; change management; values; and trends.

Access content from the list of discussion topics to the right. Materials include GLI-commissioned papers as well as links to related sources.

Latest additions:

  • Ethics and Leadership

  • We welcome your thoughtful feedback. Please e-mail Philip M. Nowlen, Head of the Getty Leadership Institute, at gli@getty.edu with your comments on current trends and reactions to any of the issues raised. All submissions will be considered for inclusion in the Compleat Leader.
