These grants support innovative interpretive projects that will increase public appreciation and understanding of artworks in a museum's permanent collection.
Projects should be designed to encourage or complement museum visitors' firsthand experiences with the objects in the collection, and should include the development of educational materials for long-term future use.
Eligibility
Museums with permanent collections of art objects of national or international significance may apply for funding for projects that will provide educational benefits to a diverse range of adult visitors.
Projects should involve the active participation of various members of the museum staff, including curators, educators, and designers, and should reflect an institution-wide commitment to expanding the educational role of the museum.
Funding may be requested to support the planning or implementation of interpretive projects. Eligible project expenses include the following:
- costs for activities such as preparing interpretive materials;
- undertaking audience research and evaluation studies;
- hiring outside consultants; and
- other expenses that are directly related to the project.
If the project is eligible for consideration, the museum will be asked to submit a formal application and will be sent the necessary application instructions.
