Conservation Education and Training Grants are primarily focused on midcareer training of conservation professionals, as well as on strengthening the institutions that provide training.
Eligibility
Nonprofit institutions that offer formal training programs integrating the history of art, science, and conservation practice may request funds to augment the institution's training capabilities. Eligible grant expenses may include support for visiting faculty, purchase of equipment or resource materials, and library acquisitions.
Museums, regional conservation centers, and other nonprofit institutions may request support for specific conservation training projects. These projects typically provide opportunities for midcareer conservators who are employed full-time by nonprofit institutions in the United States or abroad to acquire new skills.
Preliminary Procedures
The first step in applying for a Conservation Education and Training Grant is to submit a preliminary letter of inquiry to determine eligibility. The letter (maximum two pages) should include the following:
- a brief description of the activities for which funding is being requested;
- a brief description of the importance of these activities to the individuals and institutions involved;
- a brief description of the qualifications of the personnel who will be involved in the project;
- an estimate of the amount of financial support to be requested from the Getty Foundation; and
- a brief explanation on the nonprofit, charitable, or tax-exempt status of the organization.
If the project is eligible for grant consideration, the organization will be asked to submit a formal application and will be sent the necessary application forms.
