What's the Getty?
Getty Center

All of the artworks that are in GettyGames live at the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. The Getty is a museum and arts organization that teaches people about art. It has two locations—the Getty Center, top, and the Getty Villa, right.

The Getty shares the history of art with the public at its museums and helps scholars research the history and care of artworks.

Getty Villa

Getty Center fossil

At the Getty Center, you can explore art from all over Europe, including artworks that are 100 to 800 years old, and photographs made in Europe and America.

The Getty Center was designed by modern architect Richard Meier. Most of the buildings are covered with a stone called travertine that has ancient fossils embedded in it, like the feather you can see in this close-up.

The Getty Villa is a recreation of a 2,000-year-old country house in Italy. At the Villa you can see ancient art from Greece and Rome and learn about gods, heroes, and warriors from ancient history and mythology.
