Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA Concludes

Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA officially closed at the end of January after culminating in an 11-day celebration of performance art, organized by REDCAT and supported by a major grant from the Foundation. The Pacific Standard Time Festival: Live Art LA/LA featured more than 75 works by Latin American and Latino artists performed at over 20 spaces throughout Los Angeles. From variety shows to participatory events, the festival presented a wide array of activities, including a sold-out opening performance by Mexico City-based artist Astrid Hadad. Even though the Getty-led collaboration has now concluded in Los Angeles, PST: LA/LA continues as eighteen exhibitions travel around the US and to countries in Latin America and Europe over the next two years.

New Grant Initiative: The Paper Project

The Foundation has launched a new grant initiative to strengthen international curatorial practice in drawing and prints. As the 21st century museum evolves, curators of these works on paper face the need not only to preserve traditional skills passed down through generations of specialists, but also to make their collections accessible to today's museum audiences. The Paper Project: Prints and Drawings Curatorship in the 21st Century provides support for object-based training, professional workshops and seminars, and museum exhibition and publication projects for curators of graphic arts collections.

Final Stages of Panel Paintings Initiative

With the Panel Paintings Initiative nearing completion, the Foundation has acknowledged the critical partners in this effort to train a new generation of structural panel paintings conservators with a blog post and related social media campaign featuring program participants. The initiative also continues to generate new public programs and scholarly resources. The latest result is Structural Conservation of Panel Paintings at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence, a collection of key essays freely available online that has been translated into English through a Getty grant and promises to become a standard reference work for the field. A summary report on the initiative is forthcoming later this year.

2018 CAA/Getty International Program

A cohort of international scholars will attend the College Art Association's annual conference in Los Angeles this month thanks to the Getty Foundation's support. The CAA-Getty International Program, now in its seventh year, is bringing 15 new scholars and five alumni of the program to the meeting, where they will participate in a preconference colloquium at the Getty Center and a Global Conversations session during the regular conference.
