Getty Graduate Internships are offered in the four programs of the J. Paul Getty Trust—the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Getty Research Institute, the Getty Conservation Institute, and the Getty Foundation—to students of all nationalities who intend to pursue careers in fields related to the visual arts. Training and work experience are available in areas such as curatorial, education, conservation, research, information management, public programs, and grantmaking. Please see the list of internship areas and host departments participating in 2010–11 (PDF, 57KB). Approximately twenty graduate internship positions are funded each year.

Terms
Internships are located at the Getty Center in Los Angeles or the Getty Villa in Malibu. All positions are full-time beginning September 13, 2010. Most internships are for eight months, ending May 20, 2011. Conservation internships are twelve months, ending September 19, 2011. Grant amounts are $17,400 for eight months and $26,000 for twelve months. The grant includes health benefits, but housing and relocation funds are not provided.

Please note: Due to the large volume of applications for the 2010-2011 cycle, staff is unable to respond to application-related questions. Finalists will be contacted for phone or in-person interviews between January and March 2010, and all applicants will be notified via email of the Getty Foundation's decision by May 2010.
How to Apply

Part 1: Complete and submit the online portion of your application (which includes uploading a Personal Statement and Supplemental Applicant Information form) by 5:00 p.m. PST, DECEMBER 15, 2009.
Part 2: In a single envelope, mail the following items. These materials must be received in the Foundation office by DECEMBER 15, 2009. Materials received after this date will result in an incomplete application.
- 1 original and 3 copies of your academic records:
- If you are currently enrolled in a graduate program, provide proof of current enrollment (for example, most recent academic records).
- If you have attended schools in the United States, provide original transcripts for each school attended (both undergraduate and graduate). You may open and copy official transcripts. U.S. students may request that official transcripts be "Issued to Student" to facilitate photocopying.
- If you have attended schools outside of the United States, provide certification of completed courses or copies of diplomas for all programs completed following high school.
- 2 Letters of Recommendation in sealed envelopes:
- Download two copies of the Letter of Recommendation (PDF, 143 KB). Type or print your name at the top of the forms before giving them to your recommenders. Your recommenders should complete and return them to you in sealed envelopes. In order for your application to be complete, both Letters of Recommendation must be included, in separate sealed envelopes, together with your other Part 2 materials.
