Meet our New Paintings Curator

Get to know our new senior curator of paintings, Davide Gasparotto, who arrived at the Getty Center from Italy this year and is curating an exhibition on the artistry and evolution of French frames opening this September. He discusses his early passion for Italian Renaissance art, why he chose to come to the Getty, and his plans for collecting and exhibitions in his new role.

Rituals of Death in Antiquity

In anticipation of our popular Death Salon Getty Villa, we commissioned a series of reflections on death and the afterlife in the ancient world. Curator David Saunders deciphers illustrations on the surface of 2,500-year-old Italian funerary vases; artist Paul Koudounaris shares his astonishing photographs of funeral practices around the world; and museum educator Eric Bruehl reveals why the ancients chose flawed heroes to accompany them into the afterlife.

Enjoy Italian Renaissance Splendors at Home

We're excited to present our first in-depth virtual exhibition, complementing the on-site presentation of Renaissance Splendors of the Northern Italian Courts at the Getty Center. Watch Four Artists Experiment with 21st-Century Analog Photography

Witness the sometimes elaborate, sometimes accidental processes of four of the artists whose works are in the exhibition Light, Paper, Process: Reinventing Photography at the Getty Center. Whether experimenting with chemical baths in a darkroom or waiting patiently for the sun to create an unpredictable imprint, these artists forge new ground by delving into historic processes.
