Cunning fake or priceless treasure? This new exhibition takes you behind the scenes to see how curators, conservators, and scientists unraveled the mystery of this spectacular cabinet, one of the rarest and most important pieces of French Renaissance furniture in the United States.

Hands-on activities let you try your hand at reading tree rings, using woodworking tools, and examining the tiniest of textile fibers.

Renaissance illuminator Jean Bourdichon turned pigment and parchment into stunning, vibrant images, such as those now on view in the manuscripts exhibition A Masterpiece Reconstructed: The Hours of Louis XII.

Learn about Bourdichon's craft from Nancy Turner, associate conservator at the J. Paul Getty Museum, whose professional sleuthing has helped to uncover the long-lost techniques of the great illuminators.

Tour the streets of our fair city with irreverant architecture historian Reyner Banham in his rarely seen 1972 documentary Reyner Banham Loves Los Angeles (52 min.), which explores L.A.'s development into a major metropolitan city at the end of the midcentury Modern movement.

Afterward, join in the discussion as L.A. film and architecture historians Edward Dimendberg and Amy Murphy discuss Banham and the L.A. urban landscape in the visual media.
