Teacher Open Workshop: What Is Work and Who Are the Workers?

Professional Development

This free professional development workshop for K–12 teachers will explore issues surrounding contemporary and historic labor practices. After examining works of art from the Getty's collection that depict workers and unfair labor practices, teachers will also enjoy a talk by noted artist Barbara Carrasco and presentations in the galleries by education staff.

Teachers will then explore ways to incorporate issues and images discussed through hands-on activities for the classroom. Participants will receive comprehensive curricular materials, transparencies, and a CD with digital images of works of art.

Call (310) 440-7300 to register. Space is limited, so sign up now!

Magnificent Margins

Current Exhibitions

Explore the exhibition Out-of-Bounds: Images in the Margins of Medieval Manuscripts with an online interactive that allows you to take a closer look at the fantastic margins in two of the Getty's manuscripts.

Before exploring the interactive, use the lesson "Looking at Illuminated Manuscripts: Exploring an Illuminated Manuscript Page" to teach students about the different elements of an illuminated manuscript page. Then, invite your students to design a page with their own original margin designs.

Explore the interactive and learn more about the exhibition Out-of-Bounds: Images in the Margins of Medieval Manuscripts, on view at the Getty Center through November 8, 2009.
