James Conlon, Richard Seaver Music Director of LA Opera, joins Museum curator Scott Allan, educators, and guest scholars for an exploration of Benjamin Britten's opera The Turn of the Screw in the context of Henry James's ghost story of the same name and select objects from the Museum's collection. The day concludes with a special performance by artists from the LA Opera.
You'll explore the mysterious and haunting in art throughout the Getty Museum's collection, including masterworks such as James Ensor's Christ's Entry into Brussels in 1889, which suggests intriguing parallels between Ensor and the obsessed narrator of James's Turn of the Screw; and Caspar David Friedrich's A Walk at Dusk, featured in a gallery tour examining mystical perceptions in art.
Tickets $80; $65 LA Opera members and students (lunch included in ticket price).
