re: clay in preschool

Liz,
How do you approach the free exploration with your Ks? What I
mean is, how much clay do they get, is it the "real stuff" or
modeling clay? What do you do with the "projects," are they
fired or just recycled? I usually let them explore with
modeling but I find that they need to experience the "drying out
from overwork" problem before we try to do something like a
pinch pot. And last year's pinch pots were mostly done by ME
(they had to be "saved" before they fell totally apart) so they
would have success. I think this year I might have Ks do
something in a mold, like a small plastic container, and have
them put "stones" inside and smush them together. Might be more
successful!
