Dear Lisa and All,
I have my students do their scratchboard designs on newsprint first, then
they take the newsprint and tape it to the scratchboard. After that, they
retrace the outlines of the main portions of their drawing, being sure to
press rather hard with their pencils. The pencil makes an imprint in the
scratchboard. Finally, they remove the newsprint and scratch into the board
following the impressions made in the board, then they fill in the textures
using the newsprint drawing as a guide.
