Re: using donated leather

For a Native American or Western theme, how about having the students
stretch pieces of leather over a wire circular frame, sewing or glueing it
to the back to create a shield or mandala? The leather could first be
painted or wood/leather burned on with a nature theme, and then the shield
decorated with strips of leather, bones or beads, feathers, etc.?? I
received something like this as a gift years ago from my artistic sister
in law. She drew on the leather with pen and ink an image of a mountain
cougar on a rock. It's one of my favorite wall hangings.
