I do about the same thing as Michal mentioned w/ a few differences. I do
this project w/elementary students (usually 3rd) so we only use one paper
towel tube.

Also, we take sheets of tissue paper (the kind that bleeds) give each
student at the table a different color, have them put their name on them,
then stack them. The students then wet them down and then let them dry. The
colors bleed together to create some fantastic looking "jungle" prints that
we then use to decorate the outside of the tube.
