What a bunch of great ideas so far! I do "bubbles and ducks". Bubbles are
filling your mouth with air so your cheeks puff out, and ducks are putting your
hands behind your back to make a duck tail. They look so cute! I also
compliment individual students who are behaving, so the others will mimic that
behavior. I dress up in costumes to get their attention (I dressed up as a
clown when we drew clowns in 1st grade last week, but the other classes loved
it too). I also like to tell them at the end of class that they were SO good
today that next time, we're going to draw caterpillars, paint, cut out shapes,
learn about primary colors, or whatever the next lesson is. I just make it
sound like it is a reward they have earned, and I have the added bonus in that
they are looking forward to doing whatever it is we'll be doing. Hmmm, maybe I
should try this with my jr/sr high students! *L*
