Hi, we have a wonderful artist here is Western Colo. named Lyle Nichols
who creates sculptures from found objects. His work is being shown and
sold from Aspen to Michigan to Florida. He chooses to live a very simple
rural life despite his recent popularity. One sculpture he did for our
school district was "Spike the Elk", a life-size elk made of railroad
spikes! He uses a lot of humor in his work, as in "Trout" a huge fish
made of license plates (our state fish is the Rainbow Trout). We have
already created a unit for elementary aged children that included a
roughly-done video of him making "Spike", slides of his work, and the
story of his life and inspiration for his work. Lyle also will
occasionally make an appearance as well. The kids are thrilled to learn
all artists aren't dead!!
