We in my office took animal disaster "first responder" training after the
May 3 tornado from Animal Planet & the American Humane Association and
learned that Red Cross shelters do not allow animals even in a situation
where they are kept in carriers with two solid walls between pets and
humans. They also do not allow humans with colostomy bags. The AHA has
information (informational video) available on the test hurricane
re-enactment they did in, I think, Florida. So many people, especially the
elderly, won't leave without their pets, it is a serious issue.
