Hello- Several people asked about the source of the quote I sent out this AM
by Kurt Vonnegut. It was in a very small article in our local paper this AM.
The La Crosse Tribune (WI) paper, with an AP credit. Title -- "Vonnegut On
the Value of Art". The entire quote was, (in reference to his upcoming visit
to St. Paul), " I'll talk about stuff that bothers me, like the way people
are being cheated out of the experience of "becoming". Its the computer which
becomes now. People think, 'Oh, boy, wait until I get this new program.' Bill
Gates will give you a program to write a perfect Shakespearian sonnet. For
God's sake, that's not becoming, Vonnegut said.
People should practice an art to make their souls grow and not to make
money or become famous. Paint a picture. Write." Vonnegut will be at the
Central P4esbyterian Church in St. Paul on Sat.
