When I teach calligraphy, the culminating project is their name written in
calligraphy with the first letter illuminated. They do this much larger than
calligraphy pens allow, but we have practiced enough that they know the
letters. They just enlarge them. They always turn out great and the kids
love them. I dont have the measurements that they use, but that wouldnt
really matter. We measure it out so that the illumined letter is boxed in
and larger. I have painted in the illuminated section, and inked- both work
well. We just use large black markers to fill in the other letters.
Calligraphy and Illumination just go natually together, and I like to think
that lettering practice helps the visual/posters that they have to create.
Hope you can visualize that, if not, will try to be more specific,
It's Friday, Do forgive.
