heel spurs arthritis & cortizone

Is the prevalence of heel spurs among the list caused by so much standing?
The only person I know with them is a dentist who is on her feet all day,
but I've never had them (and would like to avoid it).

I'm not sure about the cortisone causing arthritis. My dear father is, to
not put to fine a point on it, dying of arthritis, (rheumatoid interstitial
lung disease, hospitalized since March -5 different places). He receives a
lot of cortisone in order to continue breathing, and it causes a great many
other problems. A terrible trade off, really. So I'm pretty interested in
the arthritis - cortisone relationship.

I've read something recently (and of course now can't find) about herbs that
are being used by some veterinarians that promote the body's own production
of a cortisone-like substance. I wonder if this is accurate and if it has
any application in people.
