I also begin my classes with a 10 minute "SSD"(Silent Sustained Drawing),
which I adopted from the other art teacher in my school. I find it very
helpful to have the SSD assignment on the overhead when my students enter the
room...but, I too am running out of ideas. Unknowingly I have been repeating
some of the SSD assignments that the other teacher gave my students last year
in 6th grade Exploratory Art. I teach Beginning Art, 7th and 8th grade, and
Pottery/Sculpture 8th grade. Needless to say, my kids are quick to inform me
that they have already"done that". Also, I am in desperate need of "Openers"
for my Potter/Sculpture classes.
I am a first year teacher,(midlife career change), and so far, as I enter my
third week of teaching, I am surviving! This list has been so informative,
encouraging and inspiring, especially the thoughts on classroom behavior and
