I know the Fed. laws are changing all the time, but I still believe that
special students are to be in classes of no more than 10 students without
having an aid. A few years ago I had a self-contained teacher who just
dropped off her 10 kids with my 15 regular kids and left me. A friend
pointed out that if anything happened to the special kids it was my neck
since they weren't being given the appropriate supervision as per law.
I talked to the principal and the teacher was in my classroom from bell
to bell with her students--of course she was in a major snit and didn't
really do anything but snarl at me. It was a sterling experience from
start to finish. Her kids were great, mostly quite capable, but they
really did need a lot of added help and I just couldn't spread that wide,
view from the backside to the contrary. Sid
