Hi
Today is our 1st day with kids. The door to my classroom has a =
poster of "The Scream" by Munch. Above it is a cartoon bubble painted =
with lots of drips that says "creativity is not a pretty sight!" and =
Welcome to Art. I have an inflatable small "Scream" who we call "baby =
Scream" because I used to have the large one until it sprung a leak. In =
recent years "baby Scream" had a purse on it's arm with the words =
"Awesome Artists of the Week". As an award for appropriate behavior, =
etc in art class, "baby Scream" visited one well managed class for the =
week for the kids to "bond" with (elementary kids). We usually =
recognized the most awesome class at the end of the school year. My kids =
love "scream" and enjoy seeing the poster wherever I might hang it. I =
also have a T shirt hanging up that says "Good art doesn't have to match =
your sofa".=20
Schedules - at the end of the school year our princ. gives us a sheet to =
list our scheduling needs and then a team works to meet all the needs =
aand develop the master art, music and pe schedules. My needs are =
always 1. classes of the same grade level back to back ( example - 3 =
-1st grades in the morning and 3 - 4th grades in the pm) 2. plan time =
scheduled early in the week hopefully 1st thing on the first day of the =
week I teach and 3. if possible , 1st grade scheduled in the morning =
since they get tired so easily (I don't teach K). My princ. and fellow =
staff really agree that grade levels need to be back to back and I =
really appreciate that because we are able to spend more time working =
and less time cleaning up and have more educational minutes because =
there's no media switch til afternoon.=20
