I have the Elements of Design posters on one of my bulletin boards with a
bubble that says, "Art Talk." Below it, I have a picture of the Mona Lisa
with the caption: What made Mona Lisa smile? Art Talk in the Art Room.
I have collected the art prints from the back of Reader's Digest, typed up
a vocabulary list of 'art talk' words (24), and glued it to the back of the
prints. I then had the pictures laminated and plan on using them at the
beginning of class to initiate some art talk activities, before starting my
lessons -- even if it's only for a couple of minutes. I hope this get them
more comfortable with art dialogue (maybe even eliminating the
conversations lead to lack of concentration on their work and some behavior
problems?? -- I can only hope!)
