Glazes & material safety

A few weeks ago, someone asked about glazes. Mayco makes the S-2000 series
which is entirely lead-free and comes is a large selection of colors and
finishes. Although this is made for cone 06, some can be fired to cone 5.
Experiment or contact Mayco for their guide to high-firing the low-fire
glazes.
This is my second year of teaching hs ceramics and I'm trying to make a
safety unit. Amaco makes a safety booklet which is helpful, but it raises
other questions, like what is the ASTM? I'm working as closely as I can
with the district office, but no one seems to have tried this before.
Does anyone have a safety unit? Any safety tests?
