I teach k-5, and I have kindergarten and first grade for 45 minutes, and
second through fifth for 90 minutes every other week. I have had various
time slots over the years. I like this one the best, so far. I use up the
time in the beginning for review and discussion of art history,
criticism, or/and aesthetics. It works. I have set up a corner of the
room with a rug for discussion of art prints, the "Art Corner". We even
have projects in kindergarten and first that span two or three lessons. I
guess in essense I'm programming them. Then at the higher grades they are
comfortable talking; they like to talk anyway, so you might as well guide
them through your process. Production is the end result, but there are so
many ways to work through the means to the outcome. I just don't like to
rush the process. When I had to do it that way; I felt like a drill
