Dear Arts Ed Netters,

When students are in kindergarten they have art for 30 minutes each
week. I barely have enough time to teach a lesson, and then have studio
time before clean up. At my school first grade through sixth has 50
minutes of art.

The school year has just begun and already I'm having problems with my
first graders. They are used to having 30 minutes of art (from
kindergarten) and don't seem to realize that they now have more time to
work. Their attention spans are quite small at this age also. I need
ideas on what small activities I can go with them when they finish
early? They seem to get restless when we still have 20 minutes left of
art. They sure do waste paper doing extra drawings. The first grade
always has trouble adjusting to the new time schedule, and this years
class seems even worse. Please Help!

Thanks

Melissa
