Keith, there was a message recently that come over this listserv--I think
during the last week or so--that you can retrieve by looking in the Archives
at the Artsednet website.
It described a lesson with children about the word "ugly" and the students
had to bring in objects from home that they considered "ugly". The objects
were discussed and voted which were the "ugliest" and why. This could lead
into a discussion of "beauty" and why things are considered beautiful and the
meaning of aesthetics in art which is defined in some glossaries as "the
study of the nature of beauty in art".
