Mark,The first 18 ideas that Ellen gave you are what I gave the list
last year at this time. I have some more that I have added.
1. Draw what you like to eat 2. Draw your favorite cartoon 3. Draw your
favorite kool signs 4, Draw things that are associated with winter. 5.
Pablo Picasso helped start a style of art called cubism. He painted face
using squares and other flat geometric shapes. Draw a cubist portrait of
yourself. 6. Draw a picture of something you might see tonight( for
Halloween) 7.Create your own cartoon character. Make some of its
features extra big or extra small to create an interesting creature. 8.
Create a land of make believe. Draw who lives there. 9. Create a simple
map to help new students find their way around your school. Include your
classrooms, restrooms, and the school office. Your map could also
include the cafeteria and gym. 10. Draw the faces of four famous people
you'd like to see on Mount Rushmore, in South Dakota. 11. Create your
own Easter Bunny in your own style. 12. Draw a picture of your classroom
teacher. Under the picture, write a sentence about the good things your
teacher does for your class. 13. Vincent Van Gogh said:"there is
nothing in the world as interesting as people... one can never study
them enough" Create as many different people as you can on your paper.
14.Draw the bike of your dreams. Would you like a bike equipped with a
radio? Umbrella to shade you on a hot summer day? 4 or 5 seats? A bike
iwth 4 wheels? 15. Design the most wild and creative car you can think
of. 16. Create your own animal cartoon character- draw the animal, color
the eyes, nose, feet, hands, Draw some clothes- funny shoes, goofy hat,
gloves, tie, jewelry Draw him doing something- playing a banjo, singing
a song, jumping over a tall building, hitting a home run. Think of a
name and print under the picture.
My students draw for the first 5 minutes of art class, while I am
getting organized for that room. I also teach art on a cart. This 5
minutes gets them settled down and ready for the art project . Today for
the first 5 minutes I used an idea from this list but I dont' remember
who's idea it was. The kids LOVED IT! An alien spaceship has just landed
in the school yard. (everyone looked out the window) Then I said- Draw
what it looks like in you notebook. If they were done with their project
for the class they could color their spaceship. I teach 1st through 6th
graders.
Thank-you for some of the GREAT ideas for the children's art notebook.
I hope to add more ideas. Does anyone else have some new ideas????

Glad to be back on this list. In the summer I went on vacation for two
weeks, the last part of July and first week in August, and had all these
messages in my e-mail- over 100! It has cleared up now.
