I agree. I am learning a good deal. I always thought I was some kind
of misfit for dreading class critiques. I have also had students tell
me that they learn more about their work through these critiques than
at any other time during the entire semester. So, I have always felt
obliged to hold them. No matter how I try to compliment all the work,
however, there are the usual students who come up afterwards complaining
about how they feel their work was unjustly compared to someone else's.
It pains me, though maybe just a little, to think that I am contributing
to the ill feelings a future educator may have about holding class crits
but it seems unavoidable.
